Glossary term

Flower crown

A ring of flowers and foliage worn on the head by the bride or bridesmaids; usually fresh, sometimes preserved.

A flower crown is built on a flexible wire and shaped to the size of the head. It can be full or delicate, with flowers all the way round or on one side only. It is common for bridesmaids and little girls, less so for the bride, who often prefers combs or single flowers in her hair.

For children, weight, comfort and non-toxic flowers matter: the guide on flowers for bridesmaids and page boys explains this. For the bride, decide with your hairdresser and do a trial: the guide on flowers in your hair compares crowns, combs and preserved flowers, which cope better with heat.

What to ask: the weight, the size, whether the crown can be adjusted, and how it stays hydrated in summer.

Frequently asked questions

Does a fresh flower crown last all day?

With sturdy flowers and a little shade, it usually lasts through the ceremony and the photos. For a long, hot day, consider using some preserved flowers.
