A wedding in Le Marche

Le Marche have something unusual: the sea and the hills are just a few kilometres apart. On the coast are the Conero Riviera with Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana, Pesaro, Senigallia, Fano and the southern coast towards San Benedetto del Tronto. Inland are Urbino, Macerata, Recanati, Fermo, Ascoli Piceno, the villages of the Vallesina among the Verdicchio vineyards and, towards the Sibillini, mountain landscapes.

You can marry in country villas, restored farmhouses, historic houses, abbeys, wineries and sea-view terraces. Le Marche are less crowded than other regions and suit couples who want hills similar to Tuscany with fewer suppliers and guests competing for dates. Logistics between coast and hills

Distances are short as the crow flies, but inland roads climb and dip between the hills and take time. Many venues are farmhouses reached by gravel roads. In historic villages access is often restricted and materials are carried by hand for the last stretch.

On the Conero coast some beaches and terraces have narrow access, on foot or by boat. For a beach ceremony, ask about the rules of the beach club and the Comune (town council). Country villas often let you choose your suppliers, but have rules on candles and music hours.

Climate, seasons and flowers

The climate is mild on the coast and cooler inland. In summer the hills get an evening breeze, while the coast can be muggy. May, June and September are the most popular months. In spring the fields fill with broom, poppies and wildflowers; in early summer there are sunflowers and lavender in several areas; in autumn vine, olive and pomegranate.
