In Rome you can marry in churches and basilicas, aristocratic palazzi, rooftop terraces in the centre, cloisters and villas with parks, many along the Appian Way (Appia Antica) and the Via Cassia. Civil ceremonies are held in the venues designated by the City of Rome, starting with the Campidoglio on the Capitoline Hill. Outside the city are the Castelli Romani with Frascati and Grottaferrata; the Tuscia with Viterbo and Lakes Bolsena and Vico; Lake Bracciano; the Sabina with its farmhouses and olive groves; and the coast down to Sperlonga, Gaeta and islands such as Ponza.
Rome is also one of the cities most chosen by couples from abroad. The list includes Rome-based floral designers who work across the region and studios rooted in the provinces. Each profile lists the areas covered.
Many Roman churches hold several weddings on the same day, often an hour or two apart. The flowers have to go up in minutes and come down straight afterwards, or be shared with the other couple. Basilicas have rules on petals, candles and fixings on pews and altars. Before you plan, ask the parish about timings and rules, and read the page on church wedding flowers and the guide to the cost of church flowers.
Central Rome has a large ZTL (limited traffic zone), alleys a van cannot get down, and palazzi with courtyards and stairs. Terraces often need a goods lift or many trips by hand. Traffic makes the journey between church and reception unpredictable: if the ceremony flowers are to be reused at the party, you need a dedicated team. Read the guide to a Rome wedding.
Summer in Rome is long and hot, with strong sun on the terraces until sunset. Many couples choose May, June, September and October. In summer you need hardy flowers, arrangements with water and late-afternoon ceremonies. Winter is mild and suits palazzo weddings with candles and greenery.
The Roman landscape offers olive, bay, pine, citrus, bougainvillea and jasmine. The city has a wholesale flower market where many of the region's florists buy their stock. Style is up to you: Roman floral designers work in everything from classic to contemporary.
Price ranges are indicative. A bridal bouquet is often between €100 and €350, church flowers range from a few hundred euros to over €2,000 for a large church, and low centrepieces cost between €40 and €150 each. In Rome, tight church timings, the ZTL, carrying by hand and double teams when church and reception are far apart all add to the cost. Read the guide to wedding flower prices.
Once you have a date and a venue, request up to 3 quotes.
Many Roman floral designers cover the Castelli, the Tuscia, the Sabina and the coast. Check the areas on each profile and ask how they charge for travel.
Sometimes, if the parish allows it and the two couples agree. It can save money, but it has to be decided together and in good time.
Yes, it is one of the most covered areas outside the city. Ask whether they know the venue and how long they need for set-up.
By goods lift, when there is one, or by hand up the stairs. The floral designer usually does a site visit and plans light structures.
