Pampas grass is an ornamental grass with tall, feathery plumes in cream, beige or blush tones. It is almost always used dried, on its own or with other dried flowers, in arches, tall vases, floor arrangements and bouquets. It has become the signature of boho styling.
There are three limits to know about: it sheds fibres, which cling to clothes and can bother guests with allergies; it is highly flammable, so it must be kept away from open flames; and it is often imported, bleached or dyed, so it is not always a sustainable choice. The guide to boho style explains how to use it; the one on dried and preserved flowers covers it along with other dried materials; the one on flowers and candles gives safe distances.
What to ask: where it comes from, whether it is treated, how it will be fixed so it does not shed.
