Planning, design and flowers from Ravello for weddings in Italy and Europe
The Amalfi Coast is a string of villages clinging to the rock between sea and mountains: Positano, Praiano, Furore, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello, Minori, Maiori, Cetara and Vietri sul Mare. You can marry in churches with majolica-tiled domes, in villas with gardens hanging over the sea, on hotel terraces, on the beach and, in Ravello, in clifftop gardens hundreds of metres above the water. It is one of the destinations most chosen by couples from abroad, especially from the US and the UK.
The list includes floral designers based on the coast and studios from the Sorrento peninsula, Salerno or Naples that work here often. The difference matters: someone who works here every week knows the stairs, permits and timings of each village.
There is only one road, the coastal SS163: narrow and winding, with heavy summer traffic and, at some times of year, restrictions on larger vehicles. A van almost never reaches the door of the venue. Flowers often travel in small vehicles and, for the last stretch, by hand up stairs and alleys, with trolleys or porters. Some venues are easier to reach by sea.
This has practical consequences: more people on the team, longer set-up, light structures that can be taken apart, deliveries at dawn. Many hotels and villas have strict supplier hours and limited space to work in. Always ask the floral designer whether they have worked at that venue before and how they bring in the materials. Find out more in the guide to an Amalfi Coast wedding.
The season runs from April to October. In high summer the sun on the terraces is strong and the sea breeze can be stiff: arches and tall arrangements must be secured and candles protected. In May and September the light is softer and the temperatures kinder.
The symbol of the coast is the sfusato lemon, a long, fragrant local variety grown on terraces under pergolas. Lemons, citrus leaves, bougainvillea, jasmine and hand-painted Vietri ceramics are materials local floral designers use often, but they are not compulsory: you can ask for a white and green scheme, a romantic look or something minimal. Read the guide on citrus and olive in wedding designs too.
Price ranges are indicative and here they tend to be higher than average because of the logistics. On top of the flowers you pay for transport and porters, possibly a boat, extra set-up hours, the team's accommodation, and hired items carried up the stairs. Ask for an itemised quote and read the guide to budgeting flowers for a destination wedding.
If you are coming from abroad, read how to work with a floral designer remotely. Once you have a date and a venue, request up to 3 quotes.
They are the most requested villages and many floral designers on the list work there often. Check the areas on each profile and ask which venues they already know.
Because of the logistics: narrow roads, stairs, porters, sometimes boats, strict timings and larger teams. The flowers cost the same as elsewhere; the work around them does not.
For some seafront venues, yes, and it is sometimes the easiest way. The transport has to be arranged in advance and is usually a separate item.
Yes, some do so often. Ask how many weddings they have done on the coast and how they handle access in high season.
Yes, in the coast's Comuni (the town councils that register marriages), in the rooms or places each Comune designates. Ask the individual Comune about its rules and available spaces.
