Flower Designer Italia

Glossary term

Travel costs

The cost of bringing team, flowers and materials to a distant venue: travel, vans, meals, accommodation, sometimes boats.

Travel costs (trasferta in Italian) cover everything needed to work away from the studio: fuel and tolls, vans, hours on the road, meals and overnight stays for the team, and in places such as Venice, Capri or the islands, boats, ferries or porters too. It can be a flat fee or worked out by distance and number of people.

It weighs heavily at destination weddings, when you choose a florist from another region or the venue is hard to reach. A local professional usually spends less on travel, but may not work in the style you want. The guide to extra costs in floral design explains the items; the one on the destination wedding flower budget shows how much it can add; the sample quotes show it in practice.

What to ask: how it is calculated, whether it includes the site visit, whether it changes for a set-up spread over two days.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to hire a local florist to avoid travel costs?

Often, yes, for the budget, because they know the roads, rules and suppliers in the area. But if you want a particular style, the travel cost can be worth it.
