Flower Designer Italia

Glossary term

Destination wedding

A wedding held far from where the couple lives; in Italy often on the lakes, in Tuscany, on the Amalfi Coast or in Puglia.

A destination wedding is a wedding organised somewhere other than where the couple lives, with guests who travel. In Italy many couples from abroad choose one, but so do Italian couples marrying in another region. It usually lasts several days: welcome dinner, ceremony, party, sometimes a brunch.

For the flowers, almost everything changes: you work at a distance, with a moodboard and a mockup; there are more travel costs; venues may have an exclusive supplier; and there are Italian customs to understand, such as the confettata and chrysanthemums. The complete guide to a destination wedding in Italy puts it all in order; the one on the budget lists the costs; the one on working remotely explains the method.

What to ask: what language the quote and contract will be in, how to pay from abroad, who will be there on the day.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book flowers for a destination wedding?

Often 10 to 12 months ahead, more for the most popular venues in high season. Book the venue first, then the florist.
