Piedmont has two sides when it comes to weddings. The wine hills: the Langhe, with Alba, Barolo, La Morra, Barbaresco, Neive and Serralunga; the Roero; and the Monferrato between Asti and Casale. Here you marry in castles, wineries, restored farmhouses and country hotels overlooking the vines. And Turin, with baroque palazzi, historic residences, the hill across the Po and villas nearby. There are also the Biella area, the Canavese with its castles, and the Alpine valleys. The northern lakes have their own page.
The Langhe are increasingly chosen by couples from abroad, especially for autumn weddings. The list includes floral designers based in Turin, Alba and the provinces of Asti and Cuneo.
In many parts of Italy the wedding season ends in September. In the Langhe and Monferrato, though, September and October are among the favourite months: it is harvest time, the vineyards change colour, and October to November is white truffle season. For flowers this means warm palettes, vine branches, hazel, autumn leaves, berries, fruit, dahlias and late-season roses.
There are constraints, however. Wineries are busy during the harvest and may have limited hours for events. Days get shorter and evenings cool: outdoor dinners need heaters or an indoor room. Morning fog is common in autumn; it looks lovely in photos but slows down transport. Read the guide to a Langhe wedding.
Roads in the Langhe are narrow and winding, and many venues sit on top of a hill. A large design means slow journeys and sometimes two days of set-up. Castles and historic houses have rules on candles, petals and fixings. Turin's centre has a ZTL (limited traffic zone) and the palazzi have courtyards and grand staircases: agree unloading and timings.
Price ranges are indicative. A bridal bouquet is often between €100 and €350, low centrepieces between €40 and €150 each. Costs rise with travel between Turin and the hills, long tables in the wineries, and lighting and candles for autumn evenings. To understand the items, read the guide to wedding flower prices.
