Tuscany is not one place. In Florence you marry in historic palazzi, cloisters, rooftop terraces and villas on the hills towards Fiesole and Settignano. In Chianti, around Greve, Radda, Castellina and Gaiole, receptions are held in wineries, farmhouses and villas surrounded by vines. In the Val d'Orcia, near Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano and San Quirico, weddings take place in hill villages and country estates with wide views and few trees. In Versilia and on the plain around Lucca you find historic villas with parks and sea-view terraces between Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio. In the Maremma, towards Capalbio and Monte Argentario, it is mostly agriturismi (working farms that host guests) and country estates near the coast.
The list includes Florence-based studios that travel all over the region and floral designers rooted in one specific area. Each profile shows where the designer is based and which areas they say they cover. If you have a particular style in mind, Tuscan floral designers work in every style: the region gives the setting, not an obligation to use olive branches and sunflowers.
Many Tuscan villas and estates have a list of approved suppliers or written rules on naked flames, petals, nails and anything resting on walls or statues. Ask for the venue rules before you confirm your floral plan. Florence's historic centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL): the florist's van needs a permit or an agreed unloading time, and palazzi often have stairs and narrow courtyards. In the hills, strade bianche (unpaved gravel roads) matter: dusty in the heat, slippery in the rain, and a loaded van has to go slowly.
Country villas are often a long way from the florist's studio. Setting up a large design can take a full day, sometimes two, with the team staying nearby. Read the guide to the venue site visit before you fix timings.
Spring and September are the busiest months. In July and August the sun in the Val d'Orcia and Chianti is strong and shade is scarce: delicate flowers struggle, and a south-facing arch should be set up late or kept shaded. In October the grape harvest brings the countryside to life, but evenings turn cool.
Local greenery helps keep costs down and ties in with the landscape: olive, bay, rosemary, lavender, cypress, and vine branches in autumn. Tuscany also has a long-established flower-growing district in the Valdinievole, around Pescia, where many florists buy their stock. Find out more in the guide to a Tuscany wedding.
Price ranges are indicative and depend on quantity, season and distance. A bridal bouquet is often between €100 and €350, a low centrepiece between €40 and €150. Costs rise with travel to remote villas, set-up over several days, hire of vases and structures, and the long banquet tables typical of vineyard dinners, which need garlands of ten or even twenty metres. For the full picture, read the guide to wedding flower prices.
If you live abroad, also read how to work with a floral designer remotely. Once you have a date and a venue, you can request up to 3 quotes with a single enquiry.
Many will: several Florence studios work across the whole region. Each profile lists the areas the designer says they cover. Travel is usually charged separately.
Chianti is one of the areas Tuscan floral designers cover most, both those based in Florence and those based in Siena. Check the areas on each profile and ask whether they already know your estate.
Some do, others have a list of approved suppliers, and others let you choose freely. Ask the venue before you choose your floral designer.
With heat-tolerant flowers, set-up in the cooler hours, water in the arrangements and shade for delicate pieces. The bouquet is delivered at the last moment and kept somewhere cool.
Greenery and flowers can only be cut with the landowner's permission. Usually the floral designer brings grown or bought materials, even when they echo the landscape.
