The anemone has broad petals and a dark centre, black or blue, that brings contrast to arrangements. White with a black centre is the most requested at weddings. The season runs from late autumn to spring and, like ranunculus, it is also grown in Italy.
It is sensitive: it opens and closes with light and temperature and suffers in the heat, so it is hard to use in summer. It works beautifully in winter bouquets and at weddings with a white and green palette. The guide to ranunculus and anemones covers varieties and care; the guides to flowers in January and February place them in the calendar; the one on the winter wedding shows how to use them.
What to ask: whether they are available on your date, how they will cope at the venue, which colours you can get.
