Seasonal flowers are the ones that bloom naturally in the month of your event, in Italy or nearby countries. Spring: ranunculus, anemones, peonies. Summer: hydrangeas, lavender, sunflowers. Autumn: dahlias, roses, berries. Winter: hellebores, amaryllis, branches and greenery.
Choosing in season usually means fresher, sturdier and often cheaper flowers, and a larger share of local flowers. An out-of-season flower can sometimes be found imported, but it costs more and the quality is not always the same. The guide to seasonal flowers in Italy month by month is the place to start; the one on the seasonal bridal bouquet applies it to the bride; the one on sustainable floral design explains the link with the environment.
What to ask: what is flowering on your date, which flowers on your moodboard are out of season and what can replace them.
