Flower repurposing

Moving ceremony flowers to the reception and giving them a second life after the party: savings and less waste.

Repurposing starts during the event: the altar arrangements move to the buffet, the floral arch goes behind the top table, the pew ends go on the seating plan. The team moves them while guests are at the drinks reception, so it has to be built into the timings and the price.

After the party, flowers can be given to guests, donated to care homes or hospitals where this is allowed, or composted if there is no floral foam. Some churches ask for the altar flowers to be left there. The guide to sustainable floral design explains how to plan for it; the one on saving money on wedding flowers uses it for the budget; the one on what to do with the flowers after the wedding has ideas for afterwards.

What to ask: which pieces will be moved, who moves them and when, what happens to the flowers at breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

Does moving the flowers from the church to the reception really save money?

Often, yes, because you pay for fewer arrangements. But moving them takes people and time: ask for it to be shown in the quote.
