Flower Designer Italia

Glossary term

Place card

A card or small object with the guest's name at their seat; a flower or a sprig makes it part of the table design.

A place card (segnaposto in Italian) shows each guest where to sit, once the seating plan has sent them to the right table. It can be a card with a sprig of eucalyptus or olive, a single flower tied to the napkin, or a small pot to take home. It is one of the pieces couples often make themselves.

Coordinate it with the table setting: it sits on or beside the plate and should not get in the way. Flowers near food must be clean and untreated: the guide on flowers and food explains why. The guide to floral seating plans and place cards gathers ideas; the one on DIY wedding flowers explains what is worth doing yourself; the one on centrepieces places them on the table.

What to ask: whether the flower designer makes them or only supplies the sprigs, and who sets them out on the tables.
