Wildflowers give a natural, airy look, like a meadow in bloom: daisies, cornflowers, chamomile, poppies, scabious, grasses and wheat. They are much loved at weddings in Tuscany and Umbria and in rustic styling. But the effortless look takes work: fragile stems, a short life, arrangements that seem random but are not.
For weddings, florists use cultivated flowers with the same look. Picking wild flowers along footpaths is not a good idea, and in the mountains many species are protected: check the local rules. The guide to wildflowers at your wedding explains what to expect; the one on flowers in May shows the best month; the one on Umbria describes an area well suited to them.
What to ask: which wildflower-style flowers are grown in your season, how well they cope with heat.
