Start with your date and your venue, not your favourite flower. The season decides which flowers are available and at what price. The venue decides what can be set up, when and under which rules. If you have already booked a villa or a reception venue, ask straight away whether it works with an exclusive florist or a list of approved suppliers. If it does, your choice narrows, and it is better to know before you fall for someone's portfolio.
Then look at the kind of work you need. A local florist who has done bouquets and church flowers for years, a floral designer who plans the whole look with mood boards and renderings, a studio that also handles lighting, furniture and coordination: these are related jobs, but they are not the same. The guide to florist, floral designer and wedding designer explains the differences, and the one on how to choose a floral designer gives you a step-by-step method.
Ask for photos of real weddings, ideally at your venue, not just inspiration images.
You do not need everything. Many couples choose two or three focal points and keep the rest simple.
There is no single price for the whole of Italy, and anyone who promises one is oversimplifying. As an indicative order of magnitude, industry guides place a well-designed but not theatrical set-up for 100 to 120 guests often between a few thousand euros and 6,000 to 7,000 €. A bridal bouquet is indicatively between 100 and 350 €, a low centrepiece between 40 and 150 €, church flowers between 500 and 2,500 € and more.
A few items move the total: seasonal or imported flowers, number of tables, height of the arrangements, installations, hire items, hours of set-up and breakdown, travel and difficult access. Also check whether the quote includes VAT (IVA in Italy) or not. For item-by-item ranges read how much wedding flowers cost and the guide on how to read a floral designer's quote.
In most of Italy the wedding season runs from May to October, and Saturdays in June and September fill up first. A floral designer can only take a limited number of weddings per day, because set-up keeps the team busy for hours. For the most popular dates, book early.
The season also changes the flowers. Peonies and ranunculus in spring, garden roses, hydrangeas and wild flowers in summer, dahlias and coloured foliage in autumn, greenery, berries and amaryllis in winter. The guide to seasonal flowers in Italy helps you choose the ones that last and cost less in your month.
You will find the full list in the guide with the questions to ask your floral designer. If your venue is far from home or you are coming from abroad, see also the page on floral designers for destination weddings.
Each profile shows where the floral designer works, their styles, services and the languages they speak, with details taken from their official websites. Nobody pays to be listed higher. You can filter by region, then open the dedicated pages, for example wedding florists in Tuscany or in Puglia. Once you have a date, a venue and a rough guest count, ask for up to 3 quotes with a single request.
It depends on the season, the number of guests and how much you decorate. As an indicative order of magnitude, a well-designed set-up for 100 to 120 guests is often between a few thousand euros and 6,000 to 7,000 €, but installations and travel can take it much higher.
For a Saturday between May and October it is worth booking early, because a floral designer takes only a few weddings per day. The detailed design is then finalised in the months before the date, once guests and tables are known.
A florist mainly works on arrangements, bouquets and church flowers; a floral designer plans the whole look, often with mood boards, trial pieces and installations. Many professionals do both: the portfolio matters more than the title.
Often yes: altar arrangements, aisle vases and the arch can be moved to the reception. Someone has to do it in the time between ceremony and reception, though, and it should be written into the quote.
It depends on the venue: some do not allow it, others charge an outside supplier fee or keep a list of approved suppliers. Ask before you sign with the venue.
