Glossary term

Set-up

The on-site work of bringing in, placing and finishing all the flowers before the event; it has hours, staff and costs.

Set-up starts when the team arrives at the venue with flowers, vases and structures, and ends with the last touches before the guests arrive. It can take an hour for a small wedding or a full day for hanging installations and large events. Timings depend on the venue: some only open on the day itself.

In the quote it is a line that is easy to misread: sometimes included, sometimes listed separately by staff and hours, sometimes with surcharges for night work or difficult access. The guide to set-up and breakdown explains timings and costs; the one on how to read a florist's quote shows where to find it; the one on flowers for large events talks numbers.

What to ask: what time the team can get in, how many people will be setting up, whether there are surcharges.

Frequently asked questions

Is set-up included in the price of the flowers?

It depends on the florist. Many include it, others list it separately. Check the line in the quote and ask about surcharges for timing or access.
